There is a lot to talk about feminism and female exploitation. Women have got enough leverage over emotional, mental as well as legal support. But, do men have that leverage? Maybe there are laws that play in favour of men. Do we talk about men? How do they feel, what are anxiety and depression to them, what do they want from relationships?
With an abundance of such atrocities flying around against men, let’s talk about male rape today.
‘Man’ the ever powerful, bold, strong and stubborn. The great mighty force which doesn’t shed tears or are they not allowed to shed them even if they wish to? Oh! stop crying like girl, man up. That is the utterly sad reality of our society, the “man up” society.
Are men really safe?
This is the question we should know the answer to. What kind of threats do men face on daily basis? What makes them feel hopeless and helpless? What exactly are the legal systems doing to protect or safeguard men?
Do men get raped in this patriarchal society?
It would be abominable to turn a blind eye towards this. Yes, the men in our society are being subjected to sexual harrasments, sexual assaults and threats. A society being professed to be run by men has been nothing more than just ignorant towards the elephant in the room.
Male rapes are negatively connotative for homosexual and heterosexual men as society questions their masculinity. Masculine customs in our society don’t allow these victims to stand for themselves and fight for their rights. People’s mindsets are obstinate to accept that males also can be rape victims like females. Most of the time, victims fail to report because of non-belief in society. Most of the time, they are afraid because of the thought that they will be seen as homosexual or society will doubt their sexual orientation. Is there any solution to this problem?
The issue can be addressed in two major ways, but they require absolute acceptance towards offences met on males and their vulnerability towards the same.
1.EMOTIONAL SUPPPORT
Emotional support from the inner circle of the victim plays a huge role in them recovering from the trauma and being able to conjure up the necessary courage to voice up against the injustice they went through.
The society needs to address it’s lack of acceptance towards men and their emotional waves. The perpetual thought process of “males can’t be harmed” has been the biggest road block in the way of people identifying as males to overcome their injury.
The word ‘man’ has been made synonymous with zero emotional quotient and power to such an extent that it has now turned toxic and compulsive.
2. LEGAL SUPPORT
Numerous countries have amended their laws to be inclusive of men. India, however lacks way behind in gender-neutral laws. With a majority of laws being female centric, men have been deprived of legal remedies and support
Conclusion
The modern civilization at large is gender biased and stubborn. Society’s so called male ego is not impacted by the truth that somewhere and somehow men
are not safe too.
Let’s make this country and this world a better place for men to express and let them share their emotions, thoughts and problems . Let’s male our hearts more human towards all.
